City youth eye TV shows as launching pad to a successful career in Bollywood

City youth are now treating reality shows on television as a stepping stone to launching their careers on national television and in Bollywood.
Call it talent or sheer luck, reality shows have changed the fate of many in the city. Biggies from the industry maintain that Pune being a young city has a huge pool of talent.
Ekta Kapoor, who launched popular names like Prachi Desai, Aditi Gupta and Subhi from Pune, and will soon audition in the city for their website hoonar.com, said, "I can happily say that 80 per cent artists in my company are from Pune. As the city has the youngest, energetic and cutest crowd, they make it easily into the entertainment business."
Lady luck
VJ Anushka, who got a break with MTV through a VJ hunt, admits that though these shows give an initial break, it's really up to the contestants to mould their career. She adds, "How you make use of your popularity after getting out of a reality shows decides your career for the long run. One wrong decision can change your life."
The most popular name so far through reality shows has been Sakshi Pradhan (winner of Splitsvilla 2) and Priyanka Saha (Get Gorgeous 05 winner). Sakshi said, "The best thing about Splitsvilla is that people now recognise me. The show has given me exposure and helped me gain confidence."
Swagata Saha, another contestant on the show, said, "I think those who want to go for reality shows should choose those where one can learn and showcase their talent."
